HailBytes Engineering Toolkit — Browser Extension

Overview

HailBytes Engineering Toolkit ("the Extension") is a browser extension that provides network, security, and cloud engineering calculators. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the Extension handles and how.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect personal information (name, email, address, phone number)
• We do not collect browsing history or web activity
• We do not collect website content
• We do not track your location
• We do not use analytics, telemetry, or third-party tracking services
• We do not transmit any data to our servers

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The Extension stores the following data locally in your browser's extension storage. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly noted:

• User preferences: Theme selection (light/dark) and last active calculator tab
• Usage statistics: Anonymous, local-only counts of which calculators you use, retained for 30 days, then automatically deleted. These are never transmitted externally.
• Installation metadata: Install date and extension version, used for update detection

Context Menu Feature

When you right-click selected text and choose "Calculate subnet," the selected text is stored temporarily in local extension storage to pre-fill the subnet calculator. This text is not transmitted anywhere.

Premium / Payment Processing

Premium features are handled by ExtensionPay (ExtPay), a third-party payment service. When you choose to upgrade:

• You are directed to ExtPay's website to complete payment
• The Extension receives back only your payment status (paid/unpaid) and timestamp — no financial or personal information
• A unique, anonymous API key is generated per installation to authenticate with ExtPay
• ExtPay's own privacy practices are governed by their privacy policy

Permissions Explained

• storage: Save your preferences and local usage data
• activeTab: Enable the context menu integration for selected IP addresses
• contextMenus: Add right-click options for subnet calculations
• alarms: Schedule periodic cleanup of stored usage data older than 30 days

Data Sharing

We do not sell, transfer, or share any user data with third parties. The only external communication is with ExtPay for payment verification, which transmits only an anonymous API key.

Data Retention

Local usage statistics are automatically deleted after 30 days. All other locally stored data persists until you uninstall the Extension or clear your browser's extension data.

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
